Insider Profile | Brett Sweeney [A&R Executive]
|
Brett Sweeney is the Founder and CEO of Outdo Music Group and Director, A&R At EMPIRE Publishing. In a career spanning over a decade, Brett has worked extensively in the realm of A&R and management, developing some of the most successful artists, songwriters, and producers of today. His artist-friendly approach and business acumen makes him one of the most prolific executives in the music business.
A native of the Bay Area and graduate of University of California, Berkeley, Sweeney found early success developing local artist Mansa which led to the artist securing collaborations with platinum rappers G-Eazy and Tory Lanez as well as securing press placements such as Billboard Magazine. In addition, he worked with Grammy-nominated artist Garren and placed records with creatives like Scorey, Jackboy, Babyface Ray and many more. Soon after Sweeney started managing multi-platinum producer Trauma Tone (Migos, Kevin Gates, NBA YoungBoy, Don Toliver) helping him solidify his place as a pillar in the production community and integrate vertical business opportunities including developing digital products and launch of his own publishing company.
All of his work independently through his Outdo Music Group banner caught the attention of multi-vertical music company EMPIRE and led to his appointment as an A&R. Hired to bolster their newly launched publishing division, Sweeney brought in several signings including producers Young Lan (Lil Uzi Vert, Nicki Minaj, Roddy Rich), James Maddocks (H.E.R., Khalid, Morgan Wallen), Coop The Truth (Jack Harlow, Summer Walker, Brent Faiyaz), My Best Friend Jacob (Vince Staples, Travis Scott, Bryson Tiller), Dzimi (Rod Wave, YB, Ty$), and more. In addition, he also signed artists Isaiah Falls, Ohgeesy, and Dro Kenji. His biggest signing yet came from securing a partnership between EMPIRE Publishing and Surf Club, a company created by Grammy Award-Winning, Multi-Platinum Artist and Producer Hit- Boy (Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Nas). The signing brought in creatives like G Dav, Dr. Blum, and Bandz who have worked with the likes of Big Sean, Kehlani, YG, Bia, Mike Posner, Nipsey Hussle, Kodak Black and Rap Icon Nas.
Sweeney’s work has been widely acknowledged by outlets such as Variety, Hits Daily Double, and Billboard Magazine. His deep connection to the creative community and propensity for putting the right artists, songwriters, and producers together to create great work makes him an executive here to stay for years to come.
